Vow Renewal in Cappadocia: A Second Chapter
Renewing your vows in Cappadocia is a meaningful way to celebrate your journey together. Here is how to plan it.
Your first wedding might have been a whirlwind — hundreds of guests, a packed schedule, two people who were young and excited and maybe a little overwhelmed. A vow renewal is none of that. This time you carry the weight of years together, and that weight is a beautiful thing.
We work with couples planning vow renewals in Cappadocia fairly often. Some are celebrating a milestone — 10 years, 25, 50. Others simply say "no special reason, we just wanted to do this." The common thread: no rush, no outside expectations, just two people choosing each other again.
What a Vow Renewal Is (and Isn't)
It's not a legal procedure. Your marriage is already valid and doesn't need to be "renewed" in any official sense. A vow renewal is purely symbolic — a moment to restate your commitment, to celebrate what you've built together.
That means no paperwork, no waiting periods, no government offices. You can do it any day, any time, anywhere you choose. All the flexibility we describe in our intimate wedding planning guide applies to vow renewals too — and then some.
Note: A vow renewal and a legal ceremony are different things. If you need a legal marriage in Cappadocia, check our civil ceremony guide for the full requirements.
Where to Hold It
Cappadocia is almost tailor-made for vow renewals. Small, intimate, surrounded by nature — the opposite of a banquet hall wedding.
Cave hotel terrace — The most popular choice, and we understand why. A terrace overlooking the valley during golden hour is both practical and stunning. We use these terraces regularly for our Cave Hotel Sunset sessions.
Private valley spot — For the more adventurous. A secluded spot inside Kızılçukur or Güllüdere Valley, with nobody else around. It takes a short hike to get there, but the setting more than makes up for it.
Balloon-filled sunrise — Renewing your vows as dawn breaks and hot air balloons rise behind you. If you're willing to set an early alarm, it's hard to find a more dramatic backdrop than Göreme Panorama at first light.

What the Day Looks Like
A typical vow renewal day is wonderfully unhurried. No wedding-day chaos.
We usually meet 2-3 hours before sunset. Our hair and makeup team handles preparation at your hotel. Then we head to the ceremony location. We start with a few portrait shots to warm up — it helps you settle into being in front of the camera.
The ceremony itself is entirely yours. Some couples read vows they've written, some exchange rings, some read letters to each other. There's no required format — you decide what feels meaningful.
We document the moment as it happens, then continue with a more relaxed, spontaneous shoot afterward. In our experience, the best frames come in the minutes right after the ceremony, when the emotion is still fresh but the nerves have eased.
A vow renewal is your chance to say what you couldn't the first time — this time knowing exactly what you're saying yes to.
Practical Details
Guest count: Most vow renewals are just the couple. You're welcome to include close family or a few friends, but groups of 2-6 tend to work best.
Duration: Plan for 3-4 hours including preparation. The ceremony itself takes 15-20 minutes; the rest is portrait time and an easy walk between locations.
What to wear: You don't need a full wedding gown. An elegant dress, a sharp suit — whatever feels comfortable and true to you. Flowing fabrics in earth tones or soft neutrals photograph beautifully against Cappadocia's landscape.
Florals & décor: We'd suggest keeping it minimal. A small hand-tied bouquet, maybe a few candles — the landscape does the decorating for you. Our custom bouquet service can create exactly what you have in mind.
Music: Silence has its own beauty, but if you'd like accompaniment, our live music team can play during the ceremony. Acoustic guitar or violin sounds incredible outdoors.
Tip: Want the ceremony on video too? Just let us know in advance. Having your vows recorded in your own voices is something many couples say they treasure even more than the photos.
Who It's For
There's no "right time" for a vow renewal. But we commonly see a few scenarios:
Big anniversaries — celebrating 10, 20, 25, or 50 years. Our 25th anniversary story is a lovely example of this.
Couples who missed out the first time — those who married during the pandemic with restrictions, eloped quietly and never had a celebration, or simply didn't have professional photos from their wedding day.
A fresh start — couples who've weathered difficult seasons and want to celebrate coming through it together. These sessions tend to carry the deepest emotions.
Is any legal paperwork required for a vow renewal?
None at all. It's a purely symbolic ceremony with no legal standing, so there's nothing to file or apply for. You can hold it on any day, in any format you choose.
Do we need an officiant?
Not necessarily. Most couples share their vows directly with each other. If you'd like a symbolic officiant to guide the ceremony, we can arrange one — but it's entirely up to you.
How long does the session take?
Around 3-4 hours including preparation. The ceremony itself is about 15-20 minutes, with the remaining time spent on portraits and a relaxed walk between locations.
Can we bring our children?
Absolutely. Vow renewal sessions with kids are wonderful. We draw on our family portrait experience to make sure everyone — including the little ones — has a good time.
What's the best season?
April through June and September through November offer ideal weather and light. That said, a winter ceremony with snow-covered fairy chimneys is incredibly striking. We'll help you plan around whatever season works for you.
