Makeup and Hair Tips for Your Photoshoot

Naturalness Above All

When preparing for a photoshoot in Cappadocia, the most important rule is this: a natural look always produces the best results. We shoot outdoors, in natural light. Heavy makeup that looks fantastic under studio lighting can appear artificial in sunlight. Our goal is not to make you look like someone else — it is to capture you at your most beautiful, in the most natural way.

With years of experience, we can say this clearly: the clients who love their photos the most are the ones who look the most natural in them. Your makeup should enhance your skin, not transform you into a different person.

However, natural does not mean no makeup at all. Light makeup applied with the right techniques evens out skin tone, highlights your eyes, and ensures your skin looks smooth in photographs. Here are our essential recommendations for shoot day.

Golden rule: Do not try a new makeup product on shoot day. A product your skin does not recognize can cause an allergic reaction. Always use products you have used before and know work well with your skin.

Makeup Tips

Skin preparation: The night before your shoot, thoroughly cleanse and moisturize your skin. When you wake up, apply a light moisturizer and sunscreen. The sun in Cappadocia can be stronger than expected, especially in summer — we recommend SPF 30 or higher.

Foundation: Use a foundation that matches your skin tone exactly, with light to medium coverage. Instead of full coverage, a BB cream or tinted moisturizer is also a great alternative. Mattifying powders can strip your face of its natural glow — instead, choose luminous, satin-finish products.

Eye makeup: Earth tones harmonize with Cappadocia's color palette — browns, bronzes, and soft golds are ideal. A brown-toned eyeliner looks more natural than black. Waterproof mascara is essential — morning dew and wind can bring unexpected tears.

Lips: Nude and pink tones look the most natural in photographs. Red lipstick can also be beautiful, but it should complement your outfit. In windy conditions, choose a matte or satin-finish lipstick over sticky lip gloss — you do not want your hair sticking to your lips.

Hairstyle Recommendations

Embrace the wind. Wind in Cappadocia is inevitable, and it is actually part of what makes the best frames. Hair flowing in the breeze adds movement and authenticity to photographs. This is why we recommend loose waves, a half-up style, or natural straight hair rather than rigid, heavily-set styles.

Keep a few hair ties and bobby pins with you. If the wind gets too strong, you can quickly pull your hair up. Your photographer will also guide you to capture the moment when your hair looks its best.

If you would like professional support, our additional services include makeup and hair styling. An experienced makeup artist will prepare you at your hotel and make touch-ups throughout the shoot. If you are planning a flying dress experience or wedding shoot, we especially recommend professional makeup.

Finally, explore our shoot packages and start planning your shoot day. The best photographs emerge in moments when you feel beautiful and at ease.

Should I book professional makeup?

For wedding, flying dress, or special event shoots, professional makeup truly makes a difference. For casual sessions, your own makeup may be perfectly sufficient.

Will my makeup last all day?

We recommend using a setting spray. Since the air in Cappadocia is dry, makeup generally holds up well. Still, keep a lip product and powder in your bag for touch-ups.

Should I wash my hair before the shoot?

We recommend washing it the night before. Hair washed the same morning can be too slippery and may not hold its style.

Any makeup tips for men?

For men, a light moisturizer and under-eye concealer is enough. Keep your skin clean and hydrated, apply lip balm, and if you have a beard or mustache, groom it neatly.
