How to Get to Cappadocia

Transportation options and practical information for getting to Cappadocia by plane, bus or car.

How to Get to Cappadocia

Cappadocia is located right in the center of Turkey, within the borders of Nevsehir Province. While it is reachable from anywhere in the world, there is no single city called "Cappadocia" — the region encompasses settlements including Goreme, Urgup, Uchisar, Avanos, and Nevsehir. In this guide, we explain in detail how to reach the region and which option best suits your needs.

Getting There by Air

The fastest and most practical way to reach Cappadocia is by air. Two airports serve the region:

Nevsehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV)
Approximately 35-40 minutes from Goreme. Fewer flights available but closer to the region. Primarily serves domestic routes.

Kayseri Erkilet Airport (ASR)
Approximately 70-80 minutes from Goreme. Offers far more flight options, including international arrivals. Direct flights are available from many cities, primarily Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir.

Flight time from Istanbul to Cappadocia is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, and AnadoluJet are the most commonly used carriers. While ticket prices vary by season, early booking can yield one-way fares between 30 and 80 Euros.

Transportation from the airport to your hotel is available via shuttle services, private transfers, or car rental. Shuttle services typically cost 10-15 Euros per person. Private transfers range from 40 to 60 Euros. You can find more information about our transfer services.

Getting There by Bus and Car

By bus: Regular bus services operate from Turkey's major cities to Cappadocia. The bus journey from Istanbul to Nevsehir or Goreme takes approximately 10-12 hours. Overnight services are popular — you board in the evening and arrive in the morning. Fares range from 15 to 30 Euros. From Ankara, the journey takes 4-5 hours.

Major bus companies (Metro, Suha, Kamil Koc, Nevsehir Seyahat) run regular services. Bus terminals are generally located in Nevsehir city center, from where Goreme is reachable by minibus or taxi in 15-20 minutes.

By rental car: For those who want to travel at their own pace, car rental is an excellent option. From Ankara it takes approximately 3-3.5 hours, from Istanbul 7-8 hours. Roads are generally in good condition with motorway connections. Having a car in Cappadocia is a significant advantage, especially for exploring between valleys.

Car rental offices are available at the airports and in city centers. Daily rental prices range from 25 to 50 Euros depending on the season.

Our recommendation: Renting a car for your entire stay in Cappadocia is not always necessary. Most hotels offer transfer services, and on shooting days we pick you up from your hotel and bring you back. However, if you want to independently explore the valleys, a car provides great convenience.

Getting Around Within Cappadocia

Once you have arrived in Cappadocia, your options for getting around the region include:

Minibuses: Regular minibus services operate between Goreme, Urgup, Uchisar, and Avanos. Fares range from 1 to 3 Euros.

Taxi: Practical for short distances but can be expensive. A ride from Goreme to Uchisar costs approximately 10-15 Euros.

ATV and bicycle: A fun way to explore the region. Multiple rental points are available.

On your shooting days, you do not need to worry about transportation — hotel pickup is generally included in our experiences. For detailed information and planning, visit our contact page.

What is the best way to get from Istanbul to Cappadocia?

Flying is the fastest and most practical route — flight time is just 1 hour and 15 minutes. Bus is a more economical alternative but takes 10-12 hours. An overnight bus saves both time and hotel costs.

Which airport should I choose?

Kayseri Airport (ASR) offers more flight options and generally better prices. Nevsehir Airport (NAV) is closer to the region but has fewer flights. Both are good options.

How many nights should I stay in Cappadocia?

We recommend at least 2 nights. This allows time for a sunrise shoot, a balloon ride, and regional exploration. For the full experience, 3-4 nights is ideal.

Can you arrange airport transfers?

Yes, private airport transfers are available among our add-on services. We provide comfortable transfers from both airports to your hotel.
